1.2 Made one major change to C-4 you can no longer throw it. This has its positive effects. As it can no longer be used as a offensive weapon against infantry as much. The throwing and instantly detonating was considered an exploit and for the most part is under wraps.

1.2 also made it so it takes longer to physically deploy the c4 aka takes longer to throw it down. Now one big complain is you cannot throw c-4 over fences. So if a tank or infantry are on the other side well you cant kill them with c-4 anymore. Also because you cant jump and deploy your c-4 you can no longer place it on ceilings of building when laying a defense around a flag.

Well as anyone who has played battlefield 2 knows C-4 is either your best friend or your worst enemy. We wanted to get a better understanding of the stuff and how to best use it. First we needed to know how powerful it is so after testing it in the field we threw these charts together to help show our findings!
First off we did the explosives radius stuff. We took one c4 stick and we measured the amount of damage it did to infantry and tanks at what distance:

We found out that one unit of c4 has a really large kill zone for infantry but one c4 couldn't take down armor. However one unit was an instant kill to any hmmwv or vodnik when placed directly on the Vehicle. Two units of c4 however could kill any armored unit as well as any command asset when placed directly on the Vehicle or command asset. One unit caused nine damage to any command asset but two destroyed it.

Now we moved on to practical use. C4 is the most flexible asset a Special Forces unit has. It can be used to attack infantry, armor, command assets and destroy bridges. It could also be used to defend choke points and flags.

Good tank drivers keep an eye on the road to make sure they don't drive over mines or get near c4 so you have to be inventive and stealthy when placing your surprise do not put it directly on the road if you can avoid it. As you can see c4 has a nice blast radius for just one unit so with four you can take down a main battle tank without it coming overly close to your care packages. For example you have a bridge perfect point since a tank will drive over it...but tank drivers (tank whores as the kids call them) are not stupid. They keep an eye on the road so its best to place your items out of the way such as shown below...

Even at this distance it's an instant kill with two c-4 units on each side of the bridge.

Place two on each side of the bridge inside the indentation and when a tank rolls up road looks clear and by the time they get close enough to spot the c4 (if they do at all) its to late for them.

Also use any spot to hide your c4 that you can telephone booths etc.
When placing c-4 make sure to hide it around the flag in a pattern, which covers the capture radius but is also as stealthy as possible. It doesn't have to be completely concealed just enough so they don't see it in time to react *run away!*.

Now another heavily debated topic is the vod bomb or hmmwv surprise. Where you fill a normal transport such as a vod, buggy, hummer up with c4 and go jihad, kamikaze a tank or group of troops. First of all some call it cheap and noobish and personally I think its only noobish when a guy does this and ends up just killing one ground pounder, but it can be used wisely to take out enemy tanks which if supporting one another can be very difficult to take out with AT units. If you're being suppressed by enemy armor these little car bombs can do just the trick to take them out and give your team time to reestablish a defensive line. Its even better to use this technique but on your enemy transports. Place the c4 in the backs where they are hard to see let a squad pile in and wham. However you look at it , it may be cheap, if used wrong its a waste, but if used right its a very effective weapon worth using in a pinch.

In closing we found c4 to be one of the most flexible weapons in the game and its best used in defense by concealing it but it can also be used well for attacking enemy units directly.
