The 1.2 patch did a interesting thing to the claymore. It is no longer set off by team mates. This has changed the use of the claymore completely. Snipers can now play them at will and not worry they will team kill a friendly Unit. However BE WARNED! that if you place a claymore in a high traffic area. It is true your team mates will not set it off, but if you have 5 team mates in the blast radius and one enemy pops up in trigger area for the claymore you will team kill the other team mates.

One change the 1.2 patch did make that in my opinion was dumb. You cannot set off the enemy claymores with grenades. Which makes it very hard to clear out roof tops. You can chuck grenades all day long at claymores now and they will just sit there. Nothing can blow them up. Good for snipers bad for everyone else.

The fact it does not require the players action to detonate also comes in handy for the sniper using it because most of the time a sniper attention is through his scope. The claymore can be used as a defensive weapon such as the top of ladders to protect the sniper or dropped around corners when being chased by an enemy unit.

Now you can also use the claymore as a booby trap as well as an offensive weapon. As shown below you can place the claymore in the back of an hmmwv which when a driver jumps in and takes off it goes off killing the driver. It does not however go off if someone jumps in and gets on the 50 cal.

They can also take the majority of healthy from drivers of buggies that drive past. If your behind enemy lines you can place claymores on destructible items such as gas cans or mobile gas tanks to strengthen the blast of the Claymore. A buggy driver passing by this would die when the claymore went off. Also two claymores set side by side will destroy a buggy completely with the units inside.

Claymores however do very little damage in the range of 1-2 bars of damage to hummers or vodniks for example and no damage to armored vehicles.
